FCA tourney raises $16K

from special reports

The Second Annual Commercial Bank/Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Tournament raised more than $16,000 for the faith-based organization which serves area youth and young adults.

The tournament was held at Briarwood Country Club and sponsored by Commercial Bank, Benefits Management Group, Commercial Insurance, Ed Williams, Structural Steel and Slay Steel.

Commercial Bank president and CEO Michael Dudley said the tournament's beneficiary — the District 5 FCA — provides athletes and coaches of all backgrounds the opportunity to gain athletic and spiritual insight while interacting with fellow Christian role models from the college and professional ranks.

First-place gross score team honors went to Jarrod Moulds, Clay Bounds, Nick Brown and John Everett, while second-place gross honors went to the quartet of Lamar Arrington, Jon Jackson, Jimmy Carle and Chuck Gordon.

First-place net team honors went to Thomas Taylor, Doug Murrah, Terry Fitch and Ricky Lee; while the second-place net honors were captured by Jonathan Wells, Cary Luke, Jody Hurst and Dan Stegall.

All four teams are now eligible to play at the FCA state playoff to be held at Old Waverly Golf Course on Oct. 13.

"I'm pleased to congratulate all the winners of this tournament," Dudley said. "In actuality, every participant was a winner as the fellowship was tremendous and the competition keen. FCA will benefit significantly from this tournament and we look forward to continuing this tradition."

Lunch was provided by Outback Steakhouse, with after-round snacks sponsored by EMEPA and provided by Connie Shannon of Village Kitchen.
